Event Details

We are delighted to invite you to the following roundtable discussion hosted by the Chatham House Middle East & North Africa and Europe Programmes in collaboration with Centre for Turkey Studies.

New Terms of Engagement: Turkey and the Arab World
Wednesday 27 June 2012, 14:00 - 17:30
Chatham House, 10 St James's Square, London, SW1Y 4LE

Event Details:

Speakers
Taha Ozhan, Director General, SETA Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research, Turkey
Lale Kemal, Columnist, Today's Zaman; Ankara Representative, Taraf; Turkey Correspondent, Jane's Defence Weekly
Fadi Hakura, Associate Fellow, Europe Programme, Chatham House
Fuat Keyman, Istanbul Policy Centre

The speakers will discuss the growing importance of Turkish foreign policy across the Arab world. The Arab revolutions, embraced by Prime Minister Erdogan's government, have given a new focus to Turkey's activist diplomacy, whilst strong economic growth over the past decade has brought the country new markets and partners across the Middle East and North Africa.

The speakers will consider how Turkey, as a key regional power, must now manage the sometimes conflicting demands and expectations in its broad neighbourhood. They will also look at opportunities and constraints on deepening engagement in the region.

We hope you will be able to join us and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Helen Twist
